Kiri Voice & Translate — Chrome Extension Privacy
Last Updated: 06 September 2026
This page describes what the Kiri Voice & Translate browser extension (the “Extension”) collects and does with it. The Extension is part of the KiriTTS Services, and everything not covered here — your account, payments, data retention, your rights, and how to contact us — is governed by the KiriTTS Privacy Policy.
What the Extension does
The Extension lets you translate text you highlight on a web page, hear text read aloud in KiriTTS voices, transcribe speech in its side panel, and type by voice into the text field you are editing. Every one of these starts with an action of yours: a click on the translate button, a keyboard shortcut, a right-click menu entry, or the microphone button in a text field. The Extension never sends, records, or changes anything on its own.
What it sends, and where
Everything the Extension sends goes to api.kiritts.com, our own API, and nowhere else. It sends:
- Text you choose: text you highlight on a page, or type into the Extension's translate box, when you ask for a translation or to have it read aloud.
- Audio you record: sound from your microphone, only while you are recording, streaming live in the side panel, or using voice typing. A live session that hears nothing for 30 seconds ends by itself.
- Your sign-in: when you press Sign in with KiriTTS, the Extension asks our API for a short pairing code and opens kiritts.com so you can approve it while signed in. Once you do, the Extension holds a login session for your account — the same kind the web app uses — and sends its token with each request to identify you. If you connect with an API key instead, that key is sent the same way.
Translation and transcription are performed by third-party providers acting as our processors. Some processing — translation, transcription, and content screening — is performed by third-party providers acting on our behalf. Under the data-processing terms governing these services, everything sent to them is handled in strict confidence: they process your text and audio only to return the result to us, do not retain, cache, or reuse it beyond what is needed to complete the request, and do not use it to train their machine-learning models. We do not allow any third party to use your data to train AI models. Requests made by the Extension appear in your account's request log with the time, endpoint, credits charged, IP address, and request content, so you can audit your own usage.
What it stores in your browser
- Your settings — target language, voice, speed and delivery, theme, whether voice typing is on, and the list of sites where you have turned the Extension off. These live in your Chrome profile's synced storage and follow your profile if you sign into Chrome on another computer. An API key, if you use one, is stored there too.
- Your sign-in session — the access and refresh tokens from Sign in with KiriTTS, and a pairing that is still waiting for your approval. These live in the Extension's local storage on that computer only; a session belongs to one device and is listed in your account's Devices & sessions.
Both are readable only by the Extension. Remove the Extension and they are deleted with it.
What it does not collect
- The addresses or titles of the pages you visit, or your browsing history.
- Text on a page that you have not highlighted, or anything you have not typed or dictated into the Extension.
- Keystrokes, clicks, scrolling, or any other activity tracking.
- Anything from password fields. The Extension ignores them.
The Extension contains no advertising and no analytics, and sends nothing to any third party.
Permissions it asks for
- Access to the pages you read (all websites): to show the translate button when you select text, the translation card, the read-aloud player, and the microphone button in a text field. You can turn this off for any site in the Extension's settings.
- Microphone: only for transcription and voice typing, only while you have pressed the button, and only after you allow it in Chrome.
- Storage: the settings and sign-in above.
- Context menus, side panel, offscreen document, active tab: the right-click entries, the transcription panel, audio playback and microphone capture, and pre-filling the translate box with your current selection when you click the toolbar icon.
Your choices
- Turn the Extension off on any website from its settings, or turn voice typing off entirely.
- Sign out from the Extension's settings at any time; it stops working until you sign in again.
- End the Extension's session from Devices & sessions in your KiriTTS dashboard, where it appears as “Kiri Voice & Translate”. If you connected with an API key, revoke the key there instead.
- Uninstall the Extension to delete everything it stored in your browser.
